Fantasy Profile: Felix Jones (RB, Cowboys)

Felix JonesFelix Jones was pretty decent running for Dallas before getting hurt last season. Unfortunately, getting hurt lost him his job when DeMarco Murray stepped in and stepped up in 2011. Week 7 marks Jones’ chance to take the power back. Following Murray’s injury in Week 6 in which he sprained his foot and has some ligament damage, Jones will be filling in as starter. Murray’s injury could linger, so for now the window is open for Felix to get back to work.

In 2012 Jones has only had 21 carries for 105 yards with 1 touchdown. He’s averaged 5.0 yards per carry. With Murray in the spotlight, he hasn’t seen a lot of work this season. In the bigger picture Jones is averaging a fairly stout 5.1 yards per carry in his career and has been a worthwhile receiving threat out of the back field. He hasn’t exactly had a nose for the end zone, but that is largely due to the fact that he split carries with Marion Barber for much of his time with the Cowboys.

Year Team G/GS Rushing Receiving Fumbles
ATT YDS AVG LNG TD REC YDS AVG LNG TD FUM LOST
2010 Dallas Cowboys 16 / 7 185 800 4.3 34 1 48 450 9.4 71 1 2 1
2011 Dallas Cowboys 12 / 8 127 575 4.5 40 1 33 221 6.7 27 0 5 2
2012 Dallas Cowboys 5 / 1 21 105 5 22 1 7 81 11.6 23 0 1 1

After Murray went down Jones put up 92 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown in Week 6. Going forward the Cowboys will be facing some favorable matchups for the running game, and that bodes well for Jones. In Week 7 they will be facing Carolina who is giving up an average of 123 rushing yards and 23.4 fantasy points per week to the ground game. When faced with the 28th ranked rush defense, there is a great chance for Jones to shine. He’s definitely worth a pickup and start.
