Kirk Cousins to start Week 15 for Redskins

Fantasy Football, Week 15, Kirk CousinsTonight the Redskins announced that Kirk Cousins will start at quarterback in the Week 15 game. Robert Griffin III suffered a grade 1 sprain of his lateral collateral ligament in his knee last week, and his status for tomorrow’s game had been uncertain all week. While RGIII was medically cleared to play, Adam Shefter has reported Saturday night that the team expects Cousins will get the Week 15 start.

Also a rookie, Cousins has only played in 2 games thus far in 2012. His previous playing time also came on the heals of a Griffin injury. In Week 5 versus the Falcons Cousins came in after RGIII was injured to tally 111 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Last week Cousins came in to complete 15 of 26 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown against Baltimore.

While his playing style greatly differs from Griffin, he has shown he has the ability to produce. He saw first team reps in practice this week, so the team likely has a plan in place to give him the best chance for success. Washington will be facing the Cleveland Browns in Week 15. The Browns are a middle of the road team in terms of pass defense. As far as fantasy potential, Cousins showed in Week 14 that he has potential. However, he is probably too much of a risk for owners going into the second round of fantasy playoffs.
