Player Profile: Russell Wilson (QB, Seahawks)

Fantasy Football, Week 17, Seahawks, Russell WilsonThe most surprising thing to find as we’re looking at Week 17 of the regular season is that Russell Wilson has only been owned in 37% of ESPN Fantasy Football leagues. Granted, he really came on late and at this point he’s purely keeper speculation for most fantasy owners since the majority of fantasy championships were in Week 16. However, some leagues are still going strong and Wilson certainly is as well.

Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson has been solid in 2012, and he’s been a monster the last 2 weeks. In Week 16 against the San Francisco 49ers he tallied 171 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also rushed for 29 yards.

In Seattle’s current 4 game winning streak Wilson has either thrown or rushed for 11 total touchdowns.

That is solid solid production, and these are strong performances at the time of the year when it matters against tough opponents. Russell is definitely a viable QB1 and has strong keeper potential in keeper leagues.

Going into Week 17 the Seahawks will be at home facing the St. Louis Rams. The Rams are giving up an average of 14.1 fantasy points to opposing QBs. Additionally, they are giving up 16.5 points to running backs. That is a solid combination that could lead to Wilson opening up the passing game. Streaks don’t get much hotter than what he’s been on lately. Ride it out.
