Quarterback matchups to avoid in Week 16

Matt RyanWith Week 16 typically representing fantasy football championship week in most leagues, it’s important to get those matchups right. We’ve already looked at potential waiver wire additions for the week and player rankings for standard, PPR, and IDP leagues. Now we’re going to do a “BEWARE” list for this week to make sure you aren’t over thinking things and steering yourself into a mess. Here’s a look at QBs to avoid in Week 16.

Carson Palmer (Cardinals at Seahawks)

Remember when Palmer was a hot waiver wire topic a few weeks ago? Not so much this week. The Seahawks are giving up the fewest fantasy points to opposing signal callers this season. QBs are averaging a meager 9.0 points against them. It will very likely spell disaster for old man Palmer in Week 16.

Matt Ryan (Falcons at 49ers)

Ryan and the Falcons have struggled this season both because of performance and injury. Week 16 isn’t going to be any easier as Atlanta faces a Niners defense that is giving up the third fewest fantasy points to opposing QBs. There are some other options out there if you’re trying to maximize points for your championship matchup.

Mike Glennon (Bucs at Rams)

Glennon has been an interesting young prospect in 2013. It’s strange to think that he’s averaging as many fantasy points per game as Josh McCown was during his high flying few weeks starting for the Bears. The Bucs are facing a tough matchup in Week 16 versus a St. Louis defense that can be tough at times. You’d be scrapping the bottom of the barrel if you’re looking for help from him this week anyway, but it’s best to look elsewhere.

Ryan Tannehill (Dolphins at Bills)

Tannehill has shown some strong flashes in 2013, and he really could have some potential moving forward. That said, in Week 16 the Dolphins are facing a tough Buffalo defense that is giving up a scant 14 points per week to QBs, and they’ve been particularly stingy recently.
