IDP Woes: Cowboys LB Sean Lee tears ACL

The hits keep on coming for Sean Lee and the Dallas Cowboys defense. Lee was assisted off the practice field yesterday and circumstances certainly didn’t look good. ESPN’s Ed Werder tweeted early today that all indications point to a torn ACL for Lee.

That’s rough news for the Cowboys and for Lee. While he’s been a solid piece of the defense when healthy, he has only been able to play in 17 games over the last two seasons. A torn ACL means he could very likely miss the entire 2014 season which would be a huge loss. The only upside is that the injury was early enough in the offseason that he may be able to have surgery and start the path to recovery with hopes of making an appearance this season.

In terms of fantasy implications, Lee has been an elite IDP when he’s been healthy. Despite his injury woes in 2013 I’ve had him ranked as the #7 linebacker going into 2014 and he’s been consistently drafted in the first two rounds of Getting Defensive IDP Mock Drafts. At this point he will likely be a non-factor for the 2014 season. His only fantasy consideration would be as a player to stash in hopes that he makes a comeback from injury before season’s end.
