Bold Rest of Season IDP Prediction: Christian Kirksey will emerge

Recently I contributed my ROS bold prection for Fantasy Pros’ Bold Predictions from The Most Accurate Experts article. As many know, before the 2014 season started I was very high on Cleveland Browns rookie linebacker, Christian Kirksey. He looked good in preseason and prior to Week 1 indications were suggesting that he would emerge as a playmaker on the Browns’ defense.

Unfortunately, Kirksey didn’t exactly start off with a bang. After seeing 60 of 72 defensive snaps in a Week 1 performance in which he had 1 sack, 0 tackles, and 1 missed tackle his snap count began a steady decline over the next several weeks. It looked like my preseason predictions for the rookie weren’t going to find fruition. But, wait…we’re not finished yet.

Beginning in Week 5 Kirksey began to see more snaps and his numbers in terms of fantasy IDP production began to take a slight rise. In Weeks 5 and 6 he saw 108 of 148 defensive snaps (64 of 78 in Week 6) and he has amassed 13 tackles and 4 tackles for losses over those two weeks. His PFF grades aren’t so good, but he’s starting to show growing IDP production. At this point he’s now seen significantly more snaps than his competitor for snaps in the Browns defense, Craig Robertson. As his snaps and opportunities increase I expect Kirksey to find improved and more consistent production.

Going forward this season I’m sticking with my guns on Christian Kirksey and I expect him to emerge as a top rookie IDP. That’s my ROS Bold Prediction. Love it or hate it.
