Punch Drunk Wonderland

Special Teams Monday (Week 13)

Each week @mr_wendy will be taking a look back at the week that was in the NFL with a special focus on special teams and relevancy of special teams players in fantasy football. Check back each week.

Another week is in the books. We started off the week with a BOOM from Dustin Colquitt Punter from Kansas City. Punting from inside his own 20 he booted a 69 yard punt that left us specials team fans jumping from our chairs. Kansas City needed a play there so they would not give up the field position and Colquitt delivered.

A rookie that I like, not just for his slot work, is Jarvis Landry from Miami. His shifty moves and quick burst on offense also helps him on his return game. Those return yards add up and gives him extra points which all of us always look for in return leagues. In leagues that require 3 WR or a flex he is a good investment as his return yards will give you a good edge. Going into this past week he was by far the best return player from the rookie players with 593 return yards.

Our top return guys from Week 12:

  1. Josh Cribbs (Indianapois Colts)
  2. De’Anthony Thomas (Kansas City Chiefs)
  3. Leon Washington (Tennessee Titans)
  4. Tavon Austin (St. Louis Rams)
  5. Dwayne Harris (Dallas Cowboys)
  6. Jeremy Ross (Detroit Lions)

Top Kickers from Week 12:

  1. Cody Parkey (Philadelphia Eagles)
  2. Billy Cundiff (Cleveland Browns) *4 FG from over 30 yards*
  3. Steven Hauschka (Seattle Seahawks)
  4. Matt Prater (Detroit Lions)

Top Punters from Week 12:

  1. Dustin Colquitt (Kansas City Chiefs)
  2. Kevin Huber (Cincinnati Bengals)

When looking for your punters look for teams that will be playing a solid defense and will need to punt often. In most leagues with punters your looking for the punts inside the 20 for your bigger scores. Dustin Colquitt  from Kansas city is your top punter in that stat.  His offense is not really a homerun style which leaves them moving the ball and then pinning down their opponents.  In a 12 team league these should be your 12 starters, if their not grab one for a slight upgrade:

  1. Dustin Colquitt (Kansas City Chiefs)
  2. Donnie Jones (Philadelphia Eagles)
  3. Kevin Huber (Cincinnati Bengals)
  4. Sam Martin (Detroit Lions)
  5. Colton Schmidt (Buffalo Bills) *My personal favorite. Young guy to stay a long time.*
  6. Marquette King (Oakland Raiders)
  7. Sam Koch (Baltimore Ravens)
  8. Mike Scifres (San Diego Chargers)
  9. Andy Lee (San Francisco 49ers)
  10. Jon Ryan (Seattle Seahawks)
  11. Pat McAfee (Indianapolis Colts)
  12. Johnny Hekker (St. Louis Rams)

Don’t forget to get your lineups set early this week. Enjoy your Thanksgiving feast as your keeping track of your fantasy games. Good luck!
