Week 13 Start ‘Em/Sit’Em

Week 13 is here and whether your fighting to secure a playoff spot or diving into your fantasy playoffs this week you’re going to want to play the smart matchup moves.  Each week I’ve taken a look at some players with favorable matchups that are start-worthy and others with not-so-favorable matchups that you should keep on the bench. If you are a daily fantasy player, some of these starts could be great values. Be sure to check back often for updated player rankings, weekly waiver wire targets, and weekly deep sleepers.

Start ‘Em

Tony Romo (QB, Dallas Cowboys) vs. Philadelphia Eagles

There are reasons to think that despite adversity 2014 could be Romo best season to date. Going into Week 13 Romo and the Cowboys have a very nice matchup against Philadelphia. The Eagles are giving up the second most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season and they’ve given up over 300 passing yards in 4 of the last 5 weeks while allowing at least 2 passing touchdowns per game over that span. The points are ripe for the pickin’ for Romo in Week 13.

Ryan Tannehill (QB, Miami Dolphins) at New York Jets

Tannehill had a big week last week in which he threw for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns. Of course, the interception wasn’t so good, but the point is that Tannehill has be looking sharp of late. The matchup is as good as it gets in Week 13 as the Dolphins face a New York Jets defense that is worst in the NFL in terms of giving up fantasy points to QBs.

Andre Ellington (RB, Arizona Cardinals) vs. Atlanta Falcons

Ellington hasn’t seen much production in recent weeks, but things should be looking up going forward. In Week 13 he and the Cardinals face a Falcons defense that is giving up the second most fantasy points to opposing running backs. Ride Ellington with confidence in Week 13.

Dan Herron (RB, Indianapolis Colts) at Washington Redskins

We saw in Week 12 that Trent Richardson seems to be keeping the same role in the Colts offense with Ahmad Bradshaw now out for the season, and Herron seems to be getting the same type of play that Bradshaw previously saw. That means he’s going to see 10-15 carries per game and will be very involved in the pass game. He could be a very sneaky play in Week 13.

Josh Gordon (WR, Cleveland Browns) vs. Buffalo Bills

Is it Josh Gordon time yet? He looked good in his return in Week 12, and the sky’s the limit for the remainder of the season. He’s matchup proof and the Bills have seemed to struggle against receivers while on the road. Look for Gordon to have a big game.

John Brown (WR, Arizona Cardinals) vs. Atlanta Falcons

The diminutive receiver for Arizona has shown many times throughout the season that he has big play ability and he’s also shown that he has good chemistry with quarterback Drew Stanton. He’s pretty much a boom/bust play, but I really like him this week against the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta’s defense is giving up an average of 27.6 fantasy points to wide receivers and I expect them to struggle to cover the speedster.

Charles Clay (TE, Miami Dolphins) at New York Jets

Clay has been a low grade TE option at best in 2014, but the matchup is great going into Week 13. He and the Dolphins will be facing a Jets defense that is giving up the second most fantasy points to tight ends. Clay should be a good value play this week.

Houston Texans D/ST vs Tennessee Titans

Houston has a good matchup against Tennessee this week and some very nice matchups going forward. They are a good defense to own going into your fantasy playoffs. In Week 13 they will be facing a Titans team that is giving up the sixth most fantasy points to opposing defenses.

Sit ‘Em

Philip Rivers (QB, San Diego Chargers) vs. Baltimore Ravens

Rivers has struggled to produce in recent weeks, and things likely won’t improve in Week 13. He and the Chargers will be facing a Baltimore defense that is giving up the sixth fewest points to QBs and they’ve had great success in recent road trips against opposing quarterbacks.

Trent Richardson (RB, Indianapolis Colts) vs. Washington Redskins

Richardson’s role doesn’t appear to be expanding after the loss of Ahmad Bradshaw and he continues to find any kind of consistent production. At this point Dan Herron is the running back with upside in the Colts offense. Steer clear of TRich until he shows signs of relevance.

Vincent Jackson (WR, Tampa Bay Bucs) vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bucs passing game has been looking up in recent weeks, but that has largely been due to the emergence of rookie Mike Evans. VJax had a nice Week 12, but look for a downswing this week at he and the Bucs will face a tough Bengals defense. Cincinnati is giving up the second fewest fantasy points to wide receivers this season.

Jordan Cameron (TE, Cleveland Browns) vs. Buffalo Bills

Cameron could be a nice late season addition as he’s coming off injury, but he isn’t a good option in Week 13 even if he plays. He’ll be facing a Bills defense that has been stingy versus tight ends, giving up an average of only 5.8 points to the position.

New England Patriots D/ST vs. Green Bay Packers

While the Pats have been a decent fantasy defense for the majority of the 2014 season, they’re tough schedule continues in Week 13 against the Packers. Defenses haven’t found good success against Green Bay as they’re allowing the fifth fewest fantasy points bye defenses allowed against them this season.
