2015 Fantasy IDP: Top 50 Defensive Backs based on ADP

With the 2015 fantasy football season looming the Getting Defensive IDP Mock Data is taking shape. While Average Draft Position does not always give us what we’re looking for, it’s a fairly good measuring stick to see how players are falling in drafts. These mocks do not give us ADP related to offensive players, but they do give us ADP showing how the various defensive players stack up against one another. We previously looked at the Top 50 Linebackers based on ADP data. Today we’re taking a look at the Top 50 Fantasy IDP Defensive Backs for 2015 and their ADP based on the data.

The Numbers

Each Getting Defensive IDP Mock Draft consists of 20 rounds in a snake draft format conducted by 12 franchises. One of the 12 mocking franchises is an ADP Bot configured to auto-pick based on ADP data gathered thus far in the Getting Defensive IDP Mocks. In the table below you will find Top 50 Defensive Back rankings based off of an ADP Value (ADPV) determined by adding draft position from each draft (1.02, 2.11, etc.) and dividing by the number of mocks conducted. If a player was not selected in a mock he is given a value of “21.00″, so the highest possible selection value is 1.01 and the lowest is 21.00. In addition to ADPV you can also find the Highest Draft Position and Lowest Draft Position thus far for each player. (The table is sortable)

Notables not in Top 50

Peterson, Patrick ARI CB: While Peterson is a top NFL cornerback, his absence from the Top 50 demonstrates how anomalous the CB position is in fantasy. Being a solid actual player at the position in this case is a fantasy detriment. This is common for star CBs as fewer passes being thrown their way means less opportunity to generate fantasy friendly stats. (ADPV: 14.755)

Davis, Vontae IND CB: See above. Good cornerbacks tend to not see the fantasy numbers. (ADPV: 15.936)

Jenkins, Malcolm PHI S: This is probably the biggest surprise. The secondary is getting a facelift and Jenkins should be a solid piece in that mix. Some have speculated that he may lose out at the position, but it’s not happening. The question will be who will be starting alongside Jenkins. I have him ranked as the #36 defensive back in my projections. (ADPV: 16.069)

Byrd, Jairus NOS S: Once a blockbuster DB, Byrd is now struggling to stay healthy and find a home. When healthy and 100% Bryd is a top 10 guy, but there are a ton of question marks and the ADP data reflects that.

McDougald, Bradley TBB S: I’m chalking this up to our mockers not knowing the name. I LOVE McDougald and have him ranked as the #22 defensive back in my projections. (ADPV: 16.286)
