Punch Drunk Wonderland

Great Moments in PDW History

PDW-AnnalsOver the years of Punch Drunk Wonderland we have had a number of great weekly matchups both in the regular season and the playoffs. Here we take a look at some of those PDW classics.

Playoff Classics

2013 Playoffs – Round 2 (The “MNF Harry Potter Nailbiter”)

fantasy-football-wizTIP had a 22.4 point lead going into MNF. He had an IDP to play and The Original ShrumpBasket had Matthew Stafford and Reggie Bush. It came down to the wire and prior to an end of game INT thrown by Stafford it was as close as 0.5 points. Overnight stat corrections set the final score at 83.3-81.5. TIP was at his girlfriend’s “watching Harry Potter” while the epic MNF struggle ensued. (For the record, QBs DO get 2 points for throwing a 2PC)

2009 Playoffs – Round 2 (The “Karma Match (Part 1)”)

ShortBus-2009This was the first real playoff screwing at the hand of overnight stat corrections. At the end of the week’s games ShortBus had a multi-point lead only to find the next morning that NSFW came out the winner after corrections. This matchup was the beginning of a bittersweet karmic narrative for NSFW.

2009 Playoffs – Round 1 (witty name TBA)

MovingTarget_bgI’m going to have to do some digging through the PDW collective consciousness to get some good details on this one. It’s worth noting that The Apparatus’s leading scorer was Quinton Ganther. Aside from being competitive and loaded with desperation, the playoffs can sometimes be mind boggling.

2008 Playoffs – Round 2 (The “Latin Cock Block”)

mean-machineThis was a tragic season for ShortBus (aka Boner in Sweat Pants) as he had a great regular season only to be narrowly defeated in the second round of the playoffs by an Apparatus team that barely made its way into the playoffs. This was a nailbiter and in all likelihood was probably the “real” championship match of 2008. It’s safe to say that Lee Evans could probably be blamed…

Regular Season Classics

2014 – Week 4 (The “Steely Dan Dirty Work”)

steelydan1977Week 4 of the “Danaissance” pitted NSFW against…well…Steely Dan related team name of the week, Dirty Work: Oh Yeah. This was a bye week nightmare for NSFW while Dirty Work had a good showing from his group. After the Monday Night Football drubbing of the Patriots by the Chiefs the score in the matchup stood at 109.9-110. Ouch. No overnight or midweek adjustments flipped this one. In fact, the final margin was 1.1 points as the final score after midweek adjustments put it at 109.9-111. It goes down as one of the close ones in PDW history.
